REMINDER: Kelly Ayotte’s Promise to Defund Planned Parenthood

While Planned Parenthood of Northern New England recently warned that it expects to face an $8.6 million deficit over the next three years, and without more aid “could be forced to change how and where it offers services,” one person it cannot turn to for additional support is Republican candidate for governor Kelly Ayotte.

In addition to her record voting for a national abortion ban and calling for the overturning of Roe v. Wade, Republican candidate for governor Kelly Ayotte also voted four times to defund Planned Parenthood, and has already promised to go further as governor. As the New Hampshire Bulletin reported, Ayotte promised she “would not renew funding to Planned Parenthood,” calling it “the largest provider of abortions in the country and… a political organization.”

Planned Parenthood is the biggest provider of reproductive health care in the state of New Hampshire that provides “cancer screenings, sexually transmitted infection testing, contraception, and sex education,” and the organization has warned that any changes or interruptions to services will directly jeopardize Granite Staters’ access to many types of care.

“Kelly Ayotte has already promised to gut Planned Parenthood, stripping access to essential health care for thousands of Granite Staters because of a partisan vendetta and her ongoing hostility to abortion rights. She can’t be trusted to be New Hampshire’s next governor,” said DGA States Press Secretary Emma O’Brien. “Ayotte’s attacks on a critical health care provider are the closest she’s come to being honest with Granite Staters about her toxic anti-choice agenda.”
