Randy Feenstra Admits Budget Law He Was a “Key Author” of is a Disaster for Iowa

Last week, Iowa gubernatorial candidate Congressman Randy Feenstra admitted that his party’s deeply unpopular budget law that jacks up costs and puts health care on the chopping block is such a bad deal for working families that “we need someone to sell it.”

At the same event, Feenstra also bragged about his role as a “key author” of the law — the latest sign that he will always put his harmful and costly agenda over what’s right for Iowa. This comes as recent reporting details how Iowa farmers are facing “extreme financial distress” thanks to cost-raising tariffs and cuts to health care that Feenstra cheered on.

“Randy Feenstra says he needs someone to ‘sell’ his disaster of a budget bill that leaves working families behind,” said DGA spokesperson Izzi Levy. “What Feenstra really needs is to explain to Iowans why he sold them out with attacks to their health care and food benefits, higher costs, and devastating harm to farmers.”

The budget law Feenstra authored is devastating for Iowa:

  • Rips health care away from over 106,700 people and raises health care premiums for 117,890 Iowans.
  • Jeopardizes food assistance benefits for roughly 264,000 Iowans, with those in rural communities hit the hardest.
  • Jacks up utility bills by as much as $350 a year at a time when working families are already being squeezed by higher costs.
  • Puts rural hospitals across Iowa that are already struggling to keep their doors open at serious risk of closure.
