On A Screen Near You: Democratic Governors Fight Back Against Trump’s Attacks on Farmers, FEMA, and Health Care
As Donald Trump continues his crusade against America’s working families, Democratic governors and the DGA spent the last week blitzing national media to stand up for people in their states. On top of their countless interviews with local media, here’s how Democratic Governors are blanketing national news to fight Donald Trump’s attacks on FEMA, Medicaid, health care funding, and more:
Hawaii Governor Josh Green on CNN’s Erin Burnett OutFront: “[Trump and Musk’s cuts to HHS are] a disaster. It’s public health malpractice on the part of RFK Jr. and the DOGE team. It’s going to cause loss of life in our state and in Kansas and in Texas and wherever else disease spreads. It’s outrageous. And these guys don’t know anything about health care, nothing … It was bad enough that [RFK Jr.] cast doubt and spread misinformation about vaccinations, but now he’s taking away the tools from we governors and directors of health and other health professionals. He’s taking away those tools for us to keep our people safe…”
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker on MSNBC’s Inside with Jen Psaki: “The small farmers, as well as our big agricultural companies, are going to lose out. And the United States economy is going to lose out because of [of DOGE cuts], a bad decision by people who know nothing about agriculture, including especially Elon Musk […] I could talk about veterans and people who are on health care, Medicaid, and I have talked to those people, and talked to them directly, and people honestly are going to lose their lives because of decisions that Elon Musk is making, that he just doesn’t understand the impact of – or he’s just a cruel individual.”
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear on Pod Save America: “I’m very concerned with the actions of the president, his administration. I’m worried about the example he’s setting for the country […] His policies are going to specifically hurt my people. Tariff policy is going to hit Kentucky harder than just about anywhere else.”
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear on MSNBC’s Deadline with Alicia Menendez: “If [Donald Trump and Elon Musk] eliminate FEMA… it would be the opposite of efficiency. It would be making [states] do what one group does with 50 separate groups across the country.”
Maryland Governor Wes Moore on CNN News Central: “Maryland’s been arguably one of the most aggressive states in the country when it comes to supporting and protecting our federal employees […] We have over 160,000 federal jobs in the state of Maryland. But because these are good public servants who are doing admirable work and are now being told that their service is no longer needed. And one in three federal employees and federal workers is a military veteran. […] It’s actually hurting our economy and impacting our national security and our national standing.”
Maryland Governor Wes Moore on CNN’s State of the Union: “I just find it deeply disrespectful that their definition of making America great again is actually challenging some of the things that makes America great in the first place, that we are an ecosystem where we have invited people from all around the world to be part of this larger American journey. And loving your country does not mean lying about its history. […] We have got to put a core focus not on eliminating nor erasing history, but on lifting it up…”
New York Governor Kathy Hochul on The David Pakman Show: “We’re looking at two to three thousand dollars per family [added because of Trump’s tariffs] – which is exactly the opposite of what people were promised [from the Trump administration.] And I’m going to remind them of that. And that is another area for Democratic governors like myself to show the contrast, because what am I doing in my budget negotiations, that I’m doing as we speak? I have a plan to put five thousand dollars back in families’ pockets… Republicans are taking money out of your pockets and we’re the ones putting it back.”
DGA External Affairs Director Ofirah Yheskel on MeidasTouch: “Governors are really a backstop against the chaos we’re seeing from Republicans on the federal level, and they’re really a protection against any attacks that we’re seeing on fundamental freedoms, and I think they use their voices to really stand up for their values and the people in their states and to fight for what’s right […] who your governor is really hasn’t mattered more.”
