Chip in today to elect Dem govs >>
Democratic governors are leading in the fight against Donald Trump. With our two historic victories in Virginia and New Jersey, grassroots momentum is on our side! But next year, nearly 80% of the country is voting for a governor – and with Republicans already investing to beat Dem govs, early support has never been so critical. Will you donate to elect more Democratic governors who will defend our rights and freedoms and stand up to Trump?
O’Malley’s band to promote early voting
Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley’s semi-retired Celtic rock band, which seems to be surfacing quite a bit lately, is booked Saturday at an event promoting early voting.
O’Malley’s March is scheduled to play at an Irish bar in Silver Spring at the “Early Voting Bash,” an event hosted by the Montgomery County Young Democrats and a slew of other political organizations, including Obama for America, the president’s campaign committee.
Saturday marks the first day of early voting in Maryland, which runs through Nov. 1.
Besides races for president and U.S. Senate, Maryland’s busy ballot includes several high-profile issues, including questions on same-sex marriage, college tuition rates for undocumented immigrants and expanded gambling.
The governor’s band, which had its heyday during his stint as a city councilman and mayor in Baltimore, last played two shows last month in Charlotte during the week of the Democratic National Convention.
The band has also committed to a pair of concerts on Dec. 27 at the Rams Head in Annapolis, just around the corner from the governor’s mansion. The venue’s Web site promises “a rollicking evening of traditional and original tunes, seasonal classics and general merriment.”
Co-sponsors of Saturday’s event include campaign committees seeking passage of two of the ballot measures on which O’Malley has been active: same-sex marriage and the so-called Dream Act of immigrants.
