New Audio: Dave Reichert Joked About Threatening to Shoot Journalists He Doesn’t Like
Dave Reichert: “I was packing the day I had an interview with the Seattle Times. I let them know I had a gun on my hip just because I don’t like the Seattle Times.”
A shocking new report from American Journal News reveals that former U.S. Congressman and Republican candidate for governor Dave Reichert “was caught on mic joking about threatening to shoot journalists.” According to the report, at a campaign event earlier this year, Reichert told the crowd,“I was packing the day I had an interview with the Seattle Times. I let them know I had a gun on my hip just because I don’t like the Seattle Times.”
This is not the first time Reichert has said dangerous things behind closed doors in a room full of his supporters:
-
Earlier this year, The Seattle Times reported that Reichert told a group of his supporters that marriage is “between a man and a woman.”
-
Earlier this month, Reichert was caught denying human causes of climate change, claiming that “‘the guy upstairs’ is responsible for controlling the weather.”
-
At another campaign event, Reichert secretly promised supporters in a closed-door meeting that he would pretend to be a moderate to win the election, but that once he’s in office, he would “start showing our conservative ideas.”
The report notes that these reckless comments came after the Seattle Times “took Reichert to task for not taking a firmer stance on Trump’s criminal indictments.” As Reichert has refused to say whether he voted for former President Trump in Washington’s Republican presidential primary, — despite voting “with President Trump 92% of the time in Congress” — the Times has repeatedly urged Reichert to “show leadership and not be coy about his thoughts about the Republican nominee for president,” and questioned whether “Reichert [has] the courage of his convictions” to take a meaningful stand on the former president.
“Dave Reichert’s comments are extreme and dangerous and have no place in Washington’s governor’s race,” said DGA States Press Secretary Emma O’Brien. “Washington voters are getting to know the real, MAGA Dave Reichert, and what they are learning is that he is too extreme to be Washington’s next governor.”
