Mikie Sherrill Vows to Freeze Utility Rates on Day One
Yesterday, Mikie Sherrill announced that she will declare a State of Emergency on Utility Costs on day one as governor to freeze New Jerseyans’ utility rates and lower costs for families. With a focus on expanding investments in new, cheaper, and cleaner power generation and increasing transparency and accountability from New Jersey utility companies, Sherrill is relentlessly focused on bringing down costs for hardworking families, while also charting a brighter path forward for the state.
Meanwhile, Jack Ciattarelli fully supports Trump’s deeply unpopular budget bill that jacks up everyday costs, kills good-paying jobs, and raises New Jersey families’ utility costs by over $200 per year.

Sherrill’s plan also emphasizes building more solar and battery storage projects, upgrading nuclear plants and making natural gas facilities “cleaner and more efficient.” Echoing her plan from last week about easing the permitting process for new projects, she said she wants to speed up the construction of solar development to account for recent Trump administration legislation that requires construction on solar and wind projects to begin by July 2026 to receive federal tax credit.
