Mike Braun’s Running Mate Calls to Take Extreme Abortion Ban Even Further By Criminalizing Hoosier Women

Indiana’s current abortion ban already includes criminal penalties for doctors, but both Senator Mike Braun and his running mate, Micah Beckwith, are making the case that it should be taken even further.

In a newly recirculating video, Beckwith makes the case for adding criminal penalties for doctors who perform abortions and for women seeking abortions because doctors and “people who get abortions illegally may not see too many consequences.”

Last week, Braun was exposed for pledging to support criminal penalties against pharmacists dispensing abortion medication.

Previously, Braun has come out in solid support of the state’s ban, claiming that Indiana “got it right” when it became the first state to enact an abortion ban after Roe v. Wade was overturned. Notably, Braun has also fully embraced his running mate, telling Beckwith that “everything you believe in, I have as well.”

While Braun and Beckwith face backlash for outlining their plans to take the state’s abortion ban even further, Jennifer McCormick launched a new TV adslamming Braun for his support of the state’s extreme abortion ban and using his praise for the ban against him.

“Indiana already has one of the most extreme abortion bans in the entire country, but Mike Braun and Micah Beckwith want to go even further with more criminal penalties that threaten to jail women, their doctors, and their pharmacists,” said DGA National Press Secretary Devon Cruz. “Hoosiers deserve better than these extreme attacks on fundamental freedoms – and that’s exactly why Jennifer McCormick is running to restore reproductive rights.”
