Mark Robinson Blatantly Lies About His Plans to Completely Ban Abortion in Latest TV Ad

Robinson: “Let’s say I was the governor and had a willing legislature, we could pass a bill saying you can’t have an abortion in North Carolina for any reason.”

Today, Mark Robinson released a new TV ad full of outright lies, in his latest attempt to deceive North Carolinians about his toxic record of pushing to ban abortion entirely, without exception, and accusing women who get abortions of “killing the child because you weren’t responsible enough to keep your skirt down.” The new ad comes after Robinson also scrubbed his website of any mention of his long and well-documented campaign to ban abortion without exception.

Despite all of this, as recently as this year, Robinson bragged about misleading voters about his extreme and dangerous plans to ban abortion entirely in North Carolina, saying,  “They think that I’ve changed my position. I have not changed my position. I’ve just changed…what I’m saying.”

Here’s What Mark Robinson Has Said About His Plans to Ban Abortion in North Carolina “For Any Reason”:

• CNN: “‘If I had all the power right now, let’s say I was the governor and had a willing legislature, we could pass a bill saying you can’t have an abortion in North Carolina for any reason.’ … dating back to 2018, Robinson regularly labeled abortion as ‘murder’ and ‘genocide.’”
• NBC: “Abortion in this country is not about protecting the lives of mothers. It is about killing the child because you weren’t responsible enough to keep your skirt down.”
• Outlining his plan to make the state’s abortion ban even stricter, Robinson said, “We got it down to 12 weeks. The next goal is to get it down to six, and then just keep moving from there.”
• Criticizing the legislature for failing to not go far enough with its abortion ban last year, Robinson said, “I wanted a six week bill. I wanted what they call the heartbeat bill, but that didn’t go our way.”

Just this morning, a new report shows yet another speech in which Robinson repeatedly states that “abortion is murder” that must be “purged from our shores.”

“Mark Robinson knows that North Carolinians do not share his dangerous agenda of completely banning abortion, which is why he is blatantly lying to them about his extreme views,” said DGA National Press Secretary Devon Cruz. “At a time when North Carolinians want a governor who will protect reproductive freedom, Robinson’s shameless attempts to mislead voters and obscure his record only further reminds North Carolinians that they cannot trust him to put them first.”
