Robinson on how to discipline children: “Beat them in a circle”
New reporting from last week reveals that Mark Robinson’s dangerous agenda includes refusing to oppose beating kids as punishment in North Carolina’s public schools.
During a campaign speech, Robinson encouraged the use of corporal punishment, saying “beat them in a circle” when talking about how children should be disciplined.
The reporting notes that Robinson has called for increased discipline in public schools, but when “asked repeatedly” if he supports using corporal punishment to do that, his campaign “did not address the topic directly.”
Robinson’s remarks are the latest addition to his dangerous anti-public school agenda, which already includes wanting to strip away funds from public schools to funnel into unaccountable private schools, gutting elementary schools of their science and social studies classes, and insulting teachers, calling them “wicked people” and “wrongheaded.”
“Instead of suggesting ways to support children, families, and public schools, Mark Robinson is proudly encouraging the beating of children, refusing to oppose its use in public schools, and dreaming up ways to make North Carolina’s public education system weaker,” said DGA National Press Secretary Devon Cruz. “Robinson is dangerous and wrong for North Carolina children and families.”
