Kelly Ayotte Still Silent on Jon Stone After Claremont City Council Removes Him From Committees

Former senator Kelly Ayotte is still standing by Rep. Jon Stone, even as even as InDepthNH reports that he was “removed from two local committees by the Claremont City Council Wednesday night after about a dozen citizens spoke out against his actions,” — which include that he “threatened to kill fellow police officers in a shooting spree, and murder his chief after raping the chief’s wife and children.”

Ayotte’s ongoing silence comes as Sullivan County state representatives have condemned Stone’s dangerous behavior and called out Ayotte for failing to renounce Stone’s endorsement or even speak out against his conduct. Ayotte has refused to comment despite a number of news outlets asking for clarity on her relationship to Stone, including her role overseeing the Police Standards & Training Council while serving as Attorney General during the time this scandal unfolded. His endorsement remains live on her website and a post of them campaigning together is still on her social media.

Despite his shocking remarks, Stone continues to serve in the state legislature, including on the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee.

“Every day that Kelly Ayotte refuses to renounce Jon Stone’s endorsement and condemn his violent threats against New Hampshire law enforcement is another day that proves she’s not fit to be New Hampshire’s next governor,” said DGA States Press Secretary Emma O’Brien. “What is it going to take for her to renounce his endorsement and condemn his actions once and for all? Ayotte should follow the lead of members of Rep. Stone’s own community that have taken a stand against him and his violent rhetoric.”
