JD Vance Joins Long List of Weird and Dangerous Men Kelly Ayotte is Propping Up
After U.S. Senator JD Vance was announced as Donald Trump’s running mate, Republican candidate for governor Kelly Ayotte quickly took to social media to praise this selection, claiming the Trump-Vance ticket is “strong.”
Vance joins a long list of dangerous, extreme, and downright weird men Kelly Ayotte counts among her allies, including:
- State Rep. Jon Stone, an early endorser of Ayotte’s gubernatorial campaign, who “threatened to kill fellow police officers in a shooting spree, and murder his chief after raping the chief’s wife and children, all while he was already under scrutiny for his inappropriate relationship with a teen girl.” It was later revealed Stone was fired from the Vermont Department of Corrections for allegedly “using racist, sexist, and homophobic insults, intimidating co-workers and making them fear his retaliation, and even getting a gay colleague to quit.” Despite many opportunities to do so, Ayotte has repeatedly refused to renounce Stone’s endorsement.
- State Rep. Jess Edwards, who went viral after voting against raising the legal age to marry from 16 to 18, claiming 16 year olds are of “ripe, fertile age.” Edwards was an early endorser of Ayotte’s campaign for governor, and the two campaigned together at a school earlier this year.
- State Rep. Ken Weyler, who spread dangerous and baseless conspiracy theories during the pandemic, including alleging that “the coronavirus vaccine contains a ‘living organism with tentacles,’” that it “darkens the eyes of newborns,” that “5G technology had somehow been inserted into the vaccine to control people’s thoughts,” and “called the pope and others ‘at the top’ of the Roman Catholic Church ‘satanists’ and ‘luciferians’ for backing public health measures.”
- The New England White Network, a white supremacist hate organization that endorsed Ayotte’s campaign for governor, which cited Ayotte’s immigration policies for why they would be supporting her, claiming “white nationalists in New Hampshire look forward to voting for her.”
“Kelly Ayotte’s band of extremists and weirdos continues to grow, with Senator JD Vance bringing his long and dangerous anti-woman record to the lineup,” said DGA States Press Secretary Emma O’Brien. “Ayotte has spent the last year pandering to the far-right, and her glowing endorsement of Vance — who has spent his brief time in politics attacking no-fault divorce, antagonizing working moms, threatening national abortion restrictions, and opposing protections for fertility care — is the latest reminder that Granite Staters cannot trust her to protect reproductive freedom, or to stand up to the most extreme fringes of the political spectrum.”
