The Fairleigh Dickinson University poll released Thursday found 67% of Garden State adults approve of the job Murphy is doing responding to the crisis as the state is in its fifth month of grappling with a pandemic that has killed 15,634 people and infected at least 176,278 residents, according to

Murphy has seen his approval ratings skyrocket during the pandemic. A Monmouth University poll from April showed 71% of people approved of the job he was doing, which represented a 30-point increase from September.
Murphy’s job performance stands in stark contrast with what New Jersey residents think of President Donald Trump, according to the new FDU poll. A majority of people (58%) disapprove of the job Trump’s done responding to the pandemic, while 36% said they approve.
“Both men are facing reelection in the not-too-distant future,” said Krista Jenkins, a professor of politics at FDU and the poll’s director. “Trump is tanking across the board, except among his base, on what will be a seminal issue in November. Conversely, Murphy is pulling in admirable ratings even among his political opponents.”
