ICYMI: Gov. Kate Brown Announces Coalition of Governors Committed to Carrying Out A Safe, Secure General Election in National Op-Ed
In case you missed it, Every State, Every Vote Co-Chair Oregon Gov. Kate Brown published an op-ed on CNN.com calling out President Trump for his dangerous misinformation campaign around the upcoming general election and announcing a coalition of Democratic governors who have pledged to carry out a safe, secure election.
President Trump has falsely claimed that vote-by-mail is not secure, even though his own campaign manager said mail-in voting has been proven to work. Trump is also attempting to impede the Post Office’s ability to process ballots, creating even more chaos and confusion. In her op-ed, Brown says, “Americans don’t deserve a period of instability after the election, especially not after the instability that the pandemic has already brought to our communities.”
The governors have committed to working with state and local level election officials to ensure that the right to vote is accessible, safe, and secure, ensuring electoral college electors vote as they are pledged, and communicating with voters about the possibility of delayed results in some states.
The members of the coalition are: Oregon Gov. Kate Brown, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, and Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers.
