Gov. Chris Sununu Calls Trump’s Hitler Praise “Par for the Course.” Don’t Hold Your Breath to Hear From Kelly Ayotte.
This morning, New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu appeared on CNN where he was asked if comments Donald Trump made praising Hitler and his generals changed his feelings for the former president, to which Sununu replied “no,” that “with a guy like [Trump], it’s kinda baked into the vote,” and that these comments are “par for the course” for Trump.
Kelly Ayotte, who has said in this election that Trump is the “right choice” for the White House, has refused to condemn Trump’s disgusting and offensive comments — the latest reminder that she cannot be trusted to stand up for Granite Staters and do what’s right.
Ayotte’s embrace of Trump this year comes after she rescinded her endorsement of him in 2016 — which many cite as the reason she lost her re-election that year — saying: “I’m not going to be voting for him based on those actions and statements that are talked about in those tapes and this is more important to me, that my daughter know when she is old enough to understand this, where I stood than winning any election.”
Throughout this election, despite Trump’s multiple felony convictions and his role in inciting a violent insurrection that left law enforcement officers dead, Ayotte has defended her decision to go back on her word and support the former president, inviting cringeworthy situations rather than explain why she abandoned what she once referred to as a “matter of principle.” Just yesterday during the NHPR gubernatorial debate, Ayotte failed to answer basic questionsabout what she tells her daughter now about her full-throated endorsement of Trump.
“While Chris Sununu has taken every opportunity to prove his spinelessness on his way out of office, Kelly Ayotte has yet to give Granite Staters a reason to trust her in the corner office — and her refusal to speak out against Donald Trump praising Hitler and his Nazi generals is disqualifying,” said DGA States Press Secretary Emma O’Brien. “It should be easy for Ayotte to unequivocally condemn Trump fantasizing about one of the darkest hours of our history but at every turn, she has proven she will do and say anything to get elected. Her silence today is just more proof that she cannot be trusted to do the right thing, show some independence, or keep New Hampshire safe.”
