Galloway Outraises Parson Despite Special Interests Powering His Campaign
Missouri Gov. Mike Parson’s campaign is powered by Jefferson City Insiders…but even with all of the help of these special interests, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Nicole Galloway outraised Parson by $228,000.
Parson is relying on these well-connected special interests to fund his campaign. Last month, the Kansas City Star highlighted Parson’s troublesome relationship with Jefferson City insider Steve Tilley, whose lobbying clients are flooding Parson’s campaign with cash. Nearly a quarter of every dollar Parson raised was connected to Tilley.
Tilley’s clients are certainly benefitting from Parson’s position. Parson is fighting to reinstate a tax giveaway to deep-pocketed housing developers. Two of Tilley’s clients who stand to gain from the tax giveaway donated $50,000 to a PAC supporting Parson.
Parson helped his cronies by calling a special session for a tax break for car trade ins that was derided as a special “session for special interests.” Those interests saw the favor from Parson, and days later Parson received a $5,001 campaign contribution from W-K Chevrolet Buick-GMC in Sedalia.
“Mike Parson’s campaign is almost entirely powered by insiders who get exactly what they pay for from his administration. His campaign embodies the very corruption that makes Missourians disgusted with politics,” said DGA Communications Director David Turner. “Parson takes their money, then does the bidding of the wealthy and well-connected. Meanwhile, nothing gets better for Missouri families who continue to struggle.”
