Every State Every Vote Responds to the President’s Threats to Delay the Election
This morning, President Trump threatened to “Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote.” Trump also falsely stated that universal mail-in voting is “fraudulent.”
Every State, Every Vote Co-Chair Oregon Gov. Kate Brown released the following statement in response to these absurd comments:
“The President does not have the legal authority to delay the 2020 election, and threatening to do so only creates fear and confusion – something America does not need any more of right now.
“President Trump’s baseless attacks against vote-by-mail are dangerous to the health of our democracy. As the first state to conduct elections entirely by mail, Oregon is proof that vote-by-mail is safe, secure, and bipartisan. Governors from both parties are enacting vote-from-home measures to protect access to free and fair elections.
“In the midst of this public health crisis, the President should be encouraging Americans to vote-by-mail, just like he has done in past elections. No American should have to choose between their health and their fundamental right to vote.”
