“Escalating Feud”: Georgia’s GOP Gov Primary “Takes a Nastier Turn” with New Campaign Ethics Complaint
Georgia’s already-divisive GOP primary has taken “a nastier turn”, as a new campaign ethics complaint throws the race between Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones and Attorney General Chris Carr into further chaos.
New reporting from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution details how “a key ally of Lt. Gov. Burt Jones fil[ed] an ethics complaint accusing a fundraising committee backing Attorney General Chris Carr of violating campaign finance laws.” This isn’t the first time the two men have traded blows: Carr and Jones were literally in court yesterday fighting over fundraising limitations, and the two have spent months clashing.
And that’s not the only nasty development in the race. Yesterday, Jones was given a prime speaking slot at JD Vance’s event in Georgia, where he doubled down on his support for D.C. Republicans’ extreme budget law.
Jones and Carr have both been outspoken in favor of the law, which rips away health care from hundreds of thousands of Georgians, threatens rural hospitals and nursing homes, and jeopardizes manufacturing jobs across the state.
Whether it’s embracing nasty political tactics in court or nasty policies that hurt Georgians – Carr and Jones are locked in an acrimonious race to the right.

- The Republican race for Georgia governor is taking a nastier turn, with a key ally of Lt. Gov. Burt Jones filing an ethics complaint accusing a fundraising committee backing Attorney General Chris Carr of violating campaign finance laws.
- The complaint filed by state Sen. Matt Brass contends that Keep Georgia Strong Action “brazenly engaged in advocacy” for Carr while skirting mandatory registration requirements.
- Brass, R-Newnan, urged the State Ethics Commission to open a formal investigation or risk setting a “dangerous precedent, signaling that dark money may evade transparency until caught.”
- It’s the latest front in an escalating feud between the rival Republicans in the GOP primary.
- A federal judge is weighing Carr’s lawsuit aimed at restricting Jones’ ability to raise unlimited cash through a special fundraising committee. And in July, Carr’s campaign filed its own ethics complaint targeting a $10 million loan Jones made to his campaign.
