DGA Statement on Wisconsin Recall Petition Results

Latest News

Washington, D.C. – Today, Governor Martin O’Malley, the chair of the Democratic Governors Association, released the following statement following news that Wisconsinites submitted over 1 million signatures in support of a recall election for Governor Scott Walker:
“This historic result shows that voters are fed up with the overreaching, extreme agendas of the new crop of Tea Party Republican governors. Just three governors have faced recall in our nation’s history, and now over a million voters in Wisconsin believe that Governor Walker should be recalled and replaced. Just as in Ohio, where voters overwhelmingly rejected their governor’s anti-worker power grab, voters in Wisconsin are sending a clear message that they will not tolerate politically-motivated attacks on working families.
“The Democratic Governors Association plans to work with our allies to field a candidate who will hold Governor Walker accountable for taking his eye off of what should have been his primary focus from Day One: creating jobs and expanding opportunity now.”
