DGA Statement on Senate Health Care Vote
DGA Chair Gov. Dan Malloy (D-CT) and DGA Vice Chair Gov. Jay Inslee (D-WA) released the following joint statement today on the motion to proceed on the Senate health care bill:
“Today’s shameful vote in the United States Senate shows exactly why Washington, D.C., is broken,” said Malloy and Inslee. “Today, Republican Senators voted to advance a secret plan that would raise premiums, slash coverage for opioid treatment, kick millions off their health care, and gut state budgets.
“This bill should be debated in public, with the input of America’s governors. Instead, Senate Republicans have cut secret deals behind closed doors, while putting our states at risk.
“This bill would cause a health crisis for our constituents and a budget crisis in all 50 states. As the Senate debates amendments, every governor and candidate must speak up to stop this disastrous bill. Silence is not an option.”
