DGA Statement on Mark Ronchetti’s Entrance to the New Mexico Governor’s Race

Today, Mark Ronchetti announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for governor of New Mexico.

Democratic Governors Association Executive Director Noam Lee released the following statement:

“Failed candidate Mark Ronchetti has sided with Donald Trump over New Mexicans at every step, and for a meteorologist, he engages in a troubling amount of science denialism. During the wildfires that devastated the American West last year, Ronchetti touted conspiracy theories and denied the impact of climate change. Ronchetti also defended Trump’s failed COVID response, calling it ‘very good’ even as Trump refused to take strong action to limit the spread of the virus.

“Now, Ronchetti has been caught lying to New Mexico voters about his own political ambitions. Over the past months, Ronchetti has quietly been taking political meetings to build his campaign, all the while telling the public he hasn’t done anything political since his failed Senate bid.

“A Ronchetti administration would be a complete disaster – New Mexico needs a governor who believes in facts and science. Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has shown strong and effective leadership over the past few years, and this just in – we predict she’ll earn a second term.”
