DGA Statement on Governor-Elect Janet Mills’ Victory in Maine
DGA Chair Governor Jay Inslee (D-WA) issued the following statement on Governor-Elect Janet Mills’ victory in Maine’s gubernatorial race, a major Democratic pickup:
“I congratulate Governor-Elect Janet Mills on her historic victory in Maine. As Maine’s first woman governor, Mills will be a strong fighter for the working families of her state, strengthening education and expanding access to health care. This election will mean health care access for 89,000 more Mainers—an issue I was thrilled to join her on the trail to highlight earlier this year. Maine voters have made their voices clear again and again in favor of Medicaid expansion; now Governor-Elect Mills is ready to deliver on the promise of expanding access to quality care.
“Janet has a track record of bringing people together to get things done like tackling the opioid crisis and helping Mainers stay in their homes during the Great Recession. I know she’ll continue that important work as governor, and I look forward to serving alongside her.
“Maine was one of our top targets in our ‘Unrig the Map’ program. With Mills’ hard fought victory tonight, Mainers will be guaranteed fairer Congressional representation for the next decade. ”
The DGA and its allies were proud to invest $5 million in Maine.
