DGA Statement on Dave LaRock Announcing His Campaign for VA GOV

Today, Democratic Governors Association National Press Secretary Devon Cruz released the following statement after former delegate Dave LaRock made his campaign for governor official, challenging Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears for the Republican nomination:

“As Republicans desperately search for an alternative to Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, Dave LaRock’s entrance into Virginia’s governor’s race guarantees a blockbuster primary fight that is guaranteed to produce an extreme Republican nominee. LaRock is all in on restricting women’s reproductive freedom, stripping resources from public schools, and making life worse for Virginia’s working families. Their dangerous extremism is wrong for Virginia, and sets up what will be a race to the right, defined by toxic, out of step positions.”

Dave LaRock Brings an Extreme and Dangerous Agenda to the GOP Primary:

• Throughout his time in the House of Delegates, Dave LaRock led efforts to restrict women’s reproductive freedom and ban abortion.
• LaRock has been a longtime supporter of stripping resources from public schools and funneling them into private and charter schools, which would weaken the state’s public school system for students, parents, and teachers.
• After attending the January 6th rally that resulted in violent attacks on police officers, LaRock defended two rioters who were convicted for their crimes, including founder of the far-right extremist group the Oath Keepers, Stewart Rhodes.
• LaRock supports Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s attacks on Virginia’s workforce and economy that threatens the livelihoods of more than 145,000 Virginians. He lists his number one priority as creating a VaDOGE, increasing attacks on hardworking Virginians.
