DGA Statement on Byron Donalds Announcing His Campaign for FL GOV

Today, Democratic Governors Association National Press Secretary Devon Cruz released the following statement after Rep. Byron Donalds announced his run for governor of Florida:

“After more than two decades of Republican control, Floridians are still struggling to access affordable health care without Medicaid expansion, facing a rapidly-worsening property insurance crisis, and seeing their fundamental freedoms further eroded every year. Launching his campaign for governor fresh off a vote to slash funding for Floridians’ health care, Byron Donalds will only make these challenges worse. Floridians deserve more from their governor and are ready for a change from the GOP’s failed leadership.”

Byron Donalds Cannot be Trusted to Help Floridians as Governor:

• Just last night, Donalds voted for the GOP budget bill that would gut Medicaid by up to $880 billion dollars, jeopardizing health care for the over 4 million Floridians who rely on the program for affordable health care.
• Donalds has consistently voted against women’s reproductive freedom, including voting against a bill to protect access to birth control, and against protecting access to mifepristone.
• As Hurricane Helene threatened Floridians last fall, Donalds voted against a bipartisan bill that would enable FEMA and the National Flood Insurance Program to deliver resources to devastated Floridians as quickly as possible.
