DGA Statement on Bill Berrien Entering Republican Primary for Governor in Wisconsin

DGA spokesperson Izzi Levy released the following statement in response to Bill Berrien entering Wisconsin’s GOP gubernatorial primary:

“Bill Berrien kicked off his campaign for governor today with a promise to bring Washington Republicans’ extremism and chaos to Wisconsin, putting him directly at odds with the Wisconsinites who have demonstrated in election after election that they want commonsense, bipartisan leaders for their state. Berrien’s announcement today puts Wisconsin on the fast track for a nasty, bruising, and divisive GOP primary that is certain to focus on everything except the issues that matter most to Wisconsin families, like bringing down costs, protecting reproductive freedom, and investing in strong public schools. As Berrien, Josh Schoemann, and the other Republicans waiting in the wings spend the next year trying to prove their far-right bona fides, Wisconsinites are ready to reject whichever extreme candidate makes it out of the primary.”

In addition to Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann who launched his campaign earlier this year, Berrien joins a long list of failed candidates and Republican extremists who are contemplating a run for governor in 2026.
