DGA Statement Ahead of Mark Robinson’s Speech at the RNC Convention Tonight

DGA Communications Director Sam Newton released the following statement ahead of North Carolina GOP Nominee for governor Mark Robinson’s speech at the RNC convention tonight:

“Mark Robinson has a long record of calling for violence, even saying ‘some folks need killing’ just a few weeks ago. Since then, he has refused to answer any questions about it. That type of violent rhetoric is wrong, should be condemned by his fellow Republicans, and shows Robinson is unfit to be governor of North Carolina.”

At a recent event, Mark Robinson “appeared to endorse political violence in a bizarre and extended rant,” where he declared “some folks need killing.” During that same speech, Robinson also stated that, “We now find ourselves struggling with people who have evil intent.”

However, according to NC Newsline, his campaign “did not respond to a question about who the people with ‘evil intent’ are that Robinson alluded to immediately prior to the ‘killing’ comments.”

Last week, Robinson ran away when asked by reporters about his comments.

Unfortunately, Robinson has frequently used his platform to push violent rhetoric, including:

  • Robinson said it’s okay to fight federal law enforcement, “When the chips are down, when the FBI is knocking on my door, will I cower, will I comply, or will I stand up and fight? Folks, it’s time to stand up and fight,” according to NPR.

  • Robinson said he has an AR-15 rifle in case the government gets “too big for its britches,” adding “Because I’m going to fill the backside of those britches with some lead. I’m going to say it to you plain: Your boy ain’t going down without swinging.”

  • Robinson defended the Kent State Massacre while mocking school shooting survivors, according to CNN.

  • Robinson’s shared social media memes to “make light of and cast doubt on details” after the violent attack on Paul Pelosi.

  • Robinson encouraged the use of corporal punishment, saying “beat them in a circle” and refused to oppose corporal punishment in school.

  • Robinson defended domestic and sexual abusers.
