Louisianans who report they were unable to see a doctor in the past year because of cost fell by 26.6 percent. Medicaid expansion created or supported over 19,000 jobs in the state and $177.8 million in state and local tax receipts.
During former Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal’s tenure, emergency rooms in Louisiana shuttered, most notably in North Baton Rouge. Now because of Gov. Edwards’ leadership, an emergency room opened its doors in North Baton Rouge in 2017.
And under Gov. Edwards’ watch, none of the state’s rural hospitals have closed unlike neighboring Mississippi and Texas, states that have refused to expand Medicaid.
