DGA Releases New Video, “The McConnell Bankruptcy”

Today, the Democratic Governors Association released a new video, “The McConnell Bankruptcy.”
Mitch McConnell basically told the states to drop dead last week when he said that states should just “declare bankruptcy.” Bold idea Mitch – that would mean devastating economic consequences for millions of Americans, including first responders, teachers, nurses, and everyone who is waiting for an unemployment check. As Gov. Phil Murphy explained, states would likely slash their budgets before resorting to bankruptcy, resulting in deep cuts to the exact services Americans need right now. 
“Mitch McConnell telling the states to declare bankruptcy shows a clear disregard for the devastating economic impact that would have on Americans,” said DGA Communications Director David Turner. “Democratic governors are fighting the pandemic on the frontlines, making tough decisions and trying to save lives. The federal government needs to pass emergency funding for state governments now or both red and blue states will be underwater.”
