DGA, DSCC, DCCC Win Lawsuit to Protect Against Voter Suppression Ballot Initiative

Ruling means Maine voters will have accurate and complete description of new voter initiative on the ballot

Today, the Democratic Governors Association (DGA), the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) secured a major victory by defeating a legal effort to push misleading ballot language about a new voter initiative that would make it more difficult for Mainers to exercise their fundamental right to vote.

The ruling means that Mainers will have an accurate and complete description of the ballot initiative, after supporters of the voter suppression initiative filed a lawsuit to force the Maine Secretary of State to rewrite the current ballot question language and replace it with deliberately misleading language.

DGA Executive Director Meghan Meehan-Draper, DSCC Executive Director Devan Barber, and DCCC Executive Director Julie Merz released the following statement: “Today’s ruling is a major victory for Mainers’ fundamental right to vote. As Republicans in D.C. rip health care and food assistance away from families in Maine, it’s more important than ever that voters are able to make their voices heard at the ballot box. Democrats will keep fighting to make life better for working families and stand up against attacks on our democracy.”
