DGA Announces Record-Shattering $50 Million Raised, Building Momentum Ahead of Key Races in Virginia and New Jersey
The Democratic Governors Association is announcing today it raised $50 million across all entities in the first six months of the year, as voters and donors alike continue to recognize the DGA’s proven record of winning tough races and the importance of electing Democratic governors ahead of key elections in Virginia and New Jersey, as well as the 36 governors’ races in 2026.
This amount is more than double what the DGA raised by this time in 2021, the last comparable year. Much of this momentum is driven by a significant uptick in giving from grassroots and major donors. Specifically, major donor contributions more than doubled (a 135.3% increase) compared to 2021.
Additionally, this is the strongest first half of the year in the DGA’s online fundraising history, including the DGA’s best single online fundraising day with half a million dollars raised. Over half of the online contributions came from first-time donors to the DGA.
This fundraising success has allowed the DGA to make an initial $5 million commitment to support Abigail Spanberger’s campaign in Virginia, while a DGA-backed group reserved over $20 million in ads across New Jersey in support of Mikie Sherrill.
“This is just more proof that the entire Democratic ecosystem is more energized than ever about electing Democratic governors — and it didn’t happen by mistake. The DGA and Democratic governors have proven we know how to win tough races, deliver real results for the American people and stand up to Donald Trump’s chaos as some of the most popular and dynamic leaders in the Democratic party,” said DGA Executive Director Meghan Meehan-Draper. “The DGA’s fundraising momentum means we’ll have the resources to keep our foot on the gas in the two hotly contested governors’ races this year while gearing up for the 36 critical races we have in 2026.”
