DGA Announces Record-Setting $138 Million Raised to Date In 2017-18 Cycle

DGA broke previous fundraising record by more than $50M, en route to biggest Democratic gubernatorial pickup since 1982

Over 2017-18 cycle, DGA spent 85% of its resources to win campaigns

Today, the Democratic Governors Association announced it raised $16.6 million across all entities in the final weeks of October and November. The DGA filed its post-general report Thursday, covering the period between October 18 and November 26.
The fundraising total brings the DGA’s 2017-18 cycle-to-date fundraising to a record $138.4 million as of November 26. That marks a $51 million increase over the DGA’s previous cycle record of $87 million raised in 2013-2014.
The $16.6 million raised in the post-general report is more than double the $7.2 million raised in the same period in 2014.
Record low overhead allowed for the DGA to spend 85% solely on political activities. These crucial investments across the country allowed for the DGA to flip a historic seven seats.
As a result of the DGA’s successful 2017-2018 cycle and historic fundraising, Democrats elected the most diverse class of governors including a record setting six women elected in one night. Now a majority of Americans can count on their governor to invest in education, expand and protect health care, and fix the roads.
“These record-breaking fundraising numbers gave us the resources we needed to have our historic cycle,” said DGA Executive Director Noam Lee. ”The DGA’s effective investments and sound management allowed us to flip seven seats. Because of that, Democratic governors now govern a majority of Americans. The DGA is poised to capitalize on our grassroots momentum and go right back on offense in 2019-2020.”
