DGA Announces Gov. Gavin Newsom To Continue to Serve as Policy Chair

Kiki McLean will serve another year as DGA Treasurer

Today, the DGA is announcing that California Gov. Gavin Newsom will serve as DGA Policy Chair for another year. The DGA is also announcing that Catherine “Kiki” McLean will continue to serve in her role as DGA Treasurer for the 2024 election cycle. Both appointments were made official at a meeting of Democratic governors in Washington, DC last weekend.

In his role as Policy Chair, Gov. Newsom will continue to promote and further the priorities Democratic governors are championing, including protecting fundamental freedoms.

Gov. Gavin Newsom stated: “Across the country, Democratic governors are delivering historic results on the issues that matter most to Americans, like protecting reproductive freedom, growing the economy for the middle class and strengthening our democracy. As millions of Americans prepare to vote this year in governor’s races that will directly affect their own lives for decades to come, I look forward to continuing working alongside the DGA to support my fellow governors and elect more leaders who will protect rights, invest in families, and create more opportunity for their states.”

“Governor Gavin Newsom is an experienced executive who has successfully led California in enacting a wide range of historic policies to protect freedom and make life better for California families. Over the past year he has also proven himself a great partner for the DGA — bringing awareness to the importance of our races and showcasing the major difference between states that are moving forward with Democratic governors vs. states that MAGA extremists are dragging backward. I am thrilled that he will be remaining in this role for another incredibly consequential election year,” said DGA Chair Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

Additionally, Kiki McLean is a veteran political strategist who has worked closely with our DGA team to raise the resources we need and provide invaluable strategic guidance to our organization. With both Gov. Newsom and Kiki returning to their roles, I am confident that the DGA and our Democratic governors are going to keep building momentum as we extend our record of success into 2024 and beyond.”

“I am honored to continue my work with the DGA,” said DGA Treasurer Kiki McLean. “This organization consistently demonstrates to the country that electing Democratic governors means getting things done and protecting fundamental freedoms for their states – and we have the record-setting fundraising to show Americans are increasingly paying attention. I could not be more excited to continue in this role, building on our record of success and showing the nation how Democratic governors continue to deliver real results for the people they represent.”
