Democratic Governors’ Statement on White House Business Meeting

DGA Chair Governor Laura Kelly, Vice Chair Governor Andy Beshear, Governor Tony Evers, Governor Maura Healey, Governor Kathy Hochul, Governor Tina Kotek, Governor Ned Lamont, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, Governor Dan McKee, Governor Matt Meyer, Governor Janet Mills, Governor Wes Moore, and Governor Josh Shapiro released the following statement following this morning’s White House business meeting with President Donald Trump and members of the cabinet:

“This morning, governors from across the country visited the White House hoping for a constructive discussion about how to bring down costs, strengthen our response to natural disasters, and ensure we can keep delivering for residents of our states.

“However, what started as a productive conversation with members of the cabinet quickly devolved into what the American people hate most about our politics, when President Trump made clear that he had no intention of using our meeting to find common ground. Instead, he chose to point fingers at Democrats in the room, engage in ugly personal attacks and threats against our colleagues, and push unfounded conspiracy theories.

“This is a moment that calls for leaders to step up and address the biggest issues our country is facing, but instead, the president chose chaos and division in our meeting today. We will continue working on the real issues that matter to families in our states and collaborating across the aisle with those of our colleagues who are also focused on that mission.”
