Democratic Governors’ Statement on Upcoming NGA White House Business Meeting

DGA Chair Governor Laura Kelly, Vice Chair Governor Andy Beshear, Governor Tony Evers, Governor Josh Green, Governor Maura Healey, Governor Kathy Hochul, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, Governor Dan McKee, Governor Matt Meyer, Governor Janet Mills, Governor Wes Moore, Governor Phil Murphy, Governor Jared Polis, Governor Josh Shapiro, and Governor Josh Stein, released the following statement ahead of tomorrow’s White House business meeting with President Donald Trump and members of the cabinet:

“Democratic governors serve a majority of Americans in every corner of our country – and we’re able to deliver results that make a real difference in the lives of the people we serve by bringing people together and working with anyone, regardless of party. In that spirit, we hope tomorrow’s meeting at the White House will be a productive conversation about the areas where we can find partnership to move our states — and our nation — forward.

“We go into this meeting having shared our vision for the future of our states that includes lowering costs for working families, improving health care, making our communities safer, and protecting fundamental freedoms – with the hope of finding a federal government that shares those priorities. We will lay out the importance of protecting the federal programs that so many of our residents rely on, including Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security; as well as the crucial investments into infrastructure, economic development, disaster relief, and more that keep our communities strong.

“We have all been elected to serve our residents equally, no matter where they live or who they voted for. We will never lose sight of our common purpose: getting stuff done, and building a stronger, safer, healthier, and more prosperous future for our states, our residents, and our country.”
