Daniel Cameron Responds to Criticism That He Doesn’t Care About Crime By Claiming He’s Not Responsible

After weeks of hiding from Kentuckians and the press, Daniel Cameron was forced to answer key questions about his failures as attorney general, including about rising crime rates. Despite his role as the state’s top law enforcement official, Cameron “refused to take any responsibility for rising crime.”

This is nothing new for Cameron, who has repeatedly failed to answer for why he has not appointed a special prosecutor to investigate disgraced former Governor Matt Bevin’s reckless and dangerous pardons of more than a dozen violent criminals, including for a man who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting and nearly killing a 15-year-old boy, along with a convicted felon whose brother contributed to Bevin’s campaign. Cameron “sidestepped” questions about his connections to the pardons and has failed to explain why he hired the Bevin crony who wrote a recommendation for the pardons as one of his top advisors.

“While Daniel Cameron plays the blame game and allows his political allies to dodge accountability, Kentuckians still deserve real answers,” said Democratic Governors Association States Press Secretary Emma O’Brien. “As the state’s top law enforcement official, Cameron has repeatedly failed to do his job and must finally answer: why won’t he appoint a special prosecutor to look into Matt Bevin’s dangerous and corrupt pardons?”To hold Cameron accountable, the DGA launched CameronDoesntCare.com to keep track of these failures and to track the number of days since Cameron promised he would “look at” the pardons. As of today, it has been 1,266 days – three and a half years.
