Daily Progress: “Winsome Earle-Sears Isn’t Talking” About GOP Plan to Cut Medicaid
The Daily Progress highlighted today how Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears is hiding and refusing to speak out against Donald Trump’s plan to cut Medicaid, writing:
“The Trump-endorsed One Big Beautiful Bill approved by House lawmakers late last month would slash $600 billion from Medicaid and threatens to strip health insurance from hundreds of thousands of Virginia’s poorest residents — and Winsome Earle-Sears isn’t talking.”
The Medicaid cuts that Sears refuses to speak up about would be devastating for Virginia. Nearly one in four Virginians is on Medicaid, and proposed cuts could result in more than 200,000 Virginians losing their health care.
According to the Daily Progress, Sears “has kept mum about the GOP budget bill” and “declined multiple interview requests on the subject from multiple news outlets.”
Sears “did not immediately respond to a Daily Progress inquiry.”
This comes as Sears dismissed the concerns of Virginians facing federal layoffs, saying that she “doesn’t understand why” people losing their jobs is a “huge, huge thing.” Sears is also a vocal supporter of Trump’s attacks on Virginia’s workforce and economy.
