Cobb County GOP Censures Brian Kemp, Threatening Re-Election Chances

Latest News

It’s been another rough week for Gov. Brian Kemp. In the latest bout of Republican infighting, the Cobb GOP’s county committee recently passed a resolution censuring Kemp.

GOP activist Debbie Dooley, who helped write the censure resolution, said, “Brian Kemp is the one that weakens the entire Republican ticket, and that’s what Republicans need to be concerned about.”

The censure comes just a week after Donald Trump slammed Kemp at a rally in Georgia, uplifting his challengers and calling Kemp “a complete disaster.”

More than a dozen Republican county parties in Georgia have already voted to censure Kemp, while his appearance at the state GOP convention was overwhelmed by boos.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution writes, “It portends a rocky road ahead, not just for Kemp, but for the Republican Party itself.”

“The Cobb County GOP’s censure is the latest crisis of Republican infighting threatening Brian Kemp, as he continues to be under fire from Donald Trump,” said DGA Deputy Communications Director Sam Newton. “ Georgians are already fed up with Kemp’s failures on COVID-19, affordable health care, and voting rights — this all-out GOP Civil War is just another nail in the coffin for the vulnerable governor.”
