CLAWS OUT: One Week in and Georgia’s GOP Primary is Already Nasty
Carr files ethics complaint against Jones in chaotic GOP primary
It’s been barely a week since Georgia Lt. Gov. Burt Jones launched his campaign for governor, and Republican infighting in the crowded primary is already getting nasty.
Fellow gubernatorial candidate and Attorney General Chris Carr today filed a campaign finance ethics complaint asking officials to look into a $10 million loan Jones made to his leadership committee — the latest, but certainly not the last, vicious attack in a crowded primary full of far-right candidates that could potentially include Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Jones and Carr have traded blows on everything from fundraising to the legislative session. The two men even “strategically ignored” each other at a recent bill signing.
“It’s one week in, and Burt Jones and Chris Carr are already locked in a nasty and divisive race to the bottom while Marjorie Taylor Greene considers a run of her own,” said DGA spokesperson Kevin Donohoe. “While Jones and Carr fight over who is more extreme and wrong for Georgia, one thing is clear: the eventual nominee will no doubt be deeply damaged and out-of-step with voters.”
