CARR CRASHES INTO JONES: With New Federal Lawsuit, Georgia’s GOP Primary Just Keeps Getting Uglier

Georgia’s Republican gubernatorial primary – already a nasty race to the right – just keeps getting uglier.

Today, Attorney General Chris Carr sued his opponent, Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones. That’s right: we’re only a month into the Republican gubernatorial primary and Chris Carr and Burt Jones are dragging each other to the extremes. And into federal court.

The lawsuit represents the latest back-and-forth in an already bruising primary. The two have traded blows on everything from Jones’ $10 million in self-loans to the legislative session. Carr and Jones even “strategically ignored” each other at a bill signing earlier this year. Both have gone out of their way to court the most extreme elements in the Republican party – and shown just how out of touch they are with Georgians by supporting DC Republicans’ bill to gut Medicaid, slash SNAP benefits, raise health care costs, and jack up the cost of electricity.
