BREAKING: “Seriously Deficient” Nonprofit Tied to Mark Robinson Fined Nearly $25,000 for Missing Government Dollars

What did Robinson know and when?

After a new WUNC investigation detailed Mark Robinson’s ties to a now-defunct nonprofit that was labeled “seriously deficient” by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, WRAL is reporting that the organization has been “ordered to pay almost $25,000 as part of state probe.”

As reported yesterday, the Department “published a report accusing Balanced Nutrition of record-keeping, hiring and monitoring violations.” The WUNC investigation noted that at one point in time, Mark Robinson was employed as a “monitor” by the organization.

In his memoir, Robinson wrote that his role at the organization is what “allowed him to quit his job and move into politics.”

The fine comes as a result of the organization filing “claims for the same receipt multiple times” and filing “claims for more money than the receipts showed.”

In one egregious example, Balanced Nutrition “billed more than $10,000 on behalf of a child care center that hadn’t submitted any claims” and the Department says “there’s no record of that money ever being paid to the center.”WRAL noted that Robinson’s team “declined to comment.”

“As this growing scandal continues to get worse, Mark Robinson needs to answer for his deep involvement in this shady organization that vastly overbilled the government, had the money go missing and is now being ordered to pay almost a $25,000 fine. Robinson must stop hiding and explain where the taxpayer money went,” said DGA National Press Secretary Devon Cruz.
