Ayotte’s Anti-Choice Agenda in the Spotlight Amid Planned Parenthood Funding Crisis

As Planned Parenthood of Northern New England faces “a projected $8.6 million deficit over the next three years,” the threat to New Hampshire’s largest reproductive health care provider will only grow if Kelly Ayotte becomes New Hampshire’s next governor.

As the New Hampshire Union Leader reports, Planned Parenthood leaders have painted a “bleak picture” of the state of reproductive health care across the region, and pointed to “endless political attacks” like those championed by Ayotte as a key reason for the crisis.

While Ayotte works overtime to mislead voters about her anti-abortion record, her repeated attacks on Planned Parenthood lay bare her extreme agenda.

As the New Hampshire Union Leader reports, “while in the U.S. Senate, front-running Republican candidate Kelly Ayotte of Nashua voted to defund Planned Parenthood” not once, but four times. After launching her campaign for governor last year, Ayotte renewed her attacks on reproductive health care, vowing to “not renew funding to Planned Parenthood because it is ‘the largest provider of abortions in the country and also it’s really somewhat of a political organization.’”

In addition to repeatedly threatening funding for Planned Parenthood, Ayotte voted in the Senate for a national abortion ban and called for Roe v. Wade to be overturned. She also voted against reproductive rights so consistently that she was awarded a “100% rating” from The National Right to Life, one of the oldest and largest anti-abortion organizations in the country.  After losing her reelection campaign, Ayotte served as the “sherpa” for then-Supreme Court Justice nominee Neil Gorsuch, who would be the first justice to sign on to the majority opinion in Dobbs, directly helping to “shepherd” in the extreme anti-choice majority that overturned Roe.

“Kelly Ayotte’s promise to gut funding for essential reproductive health care is the only time in this campaign that she’s been honest with Granite Staters about her extreme, anti-abortion agenda,” said DGA States Press Secretary Emma O’Brien. “What Ayotte isn’t telling Granite Staters is just how far she will go to further restrict reproductive freedom if given the chance. New Hampshire voters won’t let that happen, and won’t let Kelly Ayotte take them backwards.”
