“As governor, I’m going to do everything I can”: AZ Gov. Katie Hobbs Discusses Fight For Reproductive Freedom on MSNBC

Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs joined The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell to discuss the Arizona Supreme Court ruling allowing an 1864 near-total abortion ban to go into effect, and what she is doing to fight for reproductive freedom, and fight back against GOP anti-choice extremism.

Gov Hobbs stated, “The devastating impact of this ban, that it will have on health care for women across the state, is just unconscionable. This is a ban from 1864, that was enacted before we were a state, before women had the right to vote, and has extreme measures that prevent abortion even in cases or rape or incest, that have no regard for complications of pregnancy and requires jail time for doctors.”

Gov. Hobbs also outlined how she is fighting for reproductive freedom, saying, “This is an outrageous ban and it’s why I immediately called on the legislature to repeal this ban. And not only repeal this ban, but to enact protection for IVF and guarantee access to contraception… Arizonans are also going to have the chance to weigh in on this in November, and enshrine the right to abortion in our state’s constitution through a ballot measure, and as governor I’m going to do everything I can to ensure that that ballot measure passes.”
