Will Rauner Finally Stand up to President Trump?
Rauner Still Silent on President Trump’s Decision to End DACA
Today, the Trump administration announced the end of the DACA program that shields Dreamers from deportation. There are over 40,000 Dreamers in Illinois, according to the Illinois Business Immigration Coalition. As of yet, Governor Rauner has not spoken out against President Trump’s plans. The Associated Press reported Rauner “avoided the topic” on Labor Day.
Governor Rauner has recently been profiling himself as “pro-immigration,” going so far as to falsely claim that his grandparents were immigrations. But his record shows that Rauner has chosen to shut out refugees and closed needed services to Illinois immigrants. And in a Fox News interview just weeks ago, Rauner repeatedly refused to stand up to Donald Trump’s policies and rhetoric on immigration.
When Illinoisans needed Rauner to stand up to Trump on health care, he failed. Hopefully Rauner does not repeat himself.
“Bruce Rauner’s head in the sand strategy to President Donald Trump is insulting to Illinois voters,” said DGA Illinois Communications Director Sam Salustro. “Rauner stood silently by as President Trump tried to drive up health care premiums for middle-class families. Now Bruce Rauner refuses to defend another group of Illinoisans threatened by President Trump’s actions. By not standing up to President Trump, Bruce Rauner continues to fail the leadership test.”
