WATCH: Dem Govs At NGA: “We’re Going to Keep Delivering”

Latest News

This past weekend at the National Governors Association, Democratic governors committed to keep delivering results for their states. In a press conference on Saturday, DGA Chair Gov. Gina Raimondo (RI) and DGA Vice Chair Phil Murphy (NJ) joined the group of newly elected Democratic governors to highlight the progress already underway since the 2018 elections. The new governors have hit the ground running this year, raising the minimum wage, expanding Medicaid, pushing for increased school funding, and working to “fix the damn roads.”
The new governors’ success also gives Democrats reason to be optimistic about their electoral prospects in the years ahead. Gov. Raimondo noted that Republicans are defending the majority of seats up in the next two years, and Democrats already have some great candidates jumping in to challenge them.

“I am optimistic. There is energy. I have been to the last four years of DGA meetings, this is by far certainly the biggest, most energetic. People are fired up. We have momentum. We are producing wins electorally and in policy. And the message from us is that we’re going to keep delivering for people with results and we’re going to keep delivering with political wins because we have the wind at our back and we’re going to make 2019 and 2020 great years. – DGA Chair Gov. Gina Raimondo
“Governors are where the governing is happening. The values that this group stands for in – in addition to its extraordinary talent and diversity – jobs, wages, health care, public education. American values. That’s what this group stands for and I’m incredibly proud to serve under Gina and with this extraordinary group of governors. We picked up net seven governors in November and so it was a huge year for us. And we’re going to have a huge one ahead of us.” DGA Vice Chair Gov. Phil Murphy
