Poll Solidifies Far-Right Extremist Amanda Chase’s Position as VA GOP Frontrunner for Governor
Pete Snyder Comes In Second, Making It Clear Virginia Republicans Have a Trump Problem
It’s official – Amanda Chase is the frontrunner for the Republican nomination for Virginia governor. A YouGov poll released today showed Chase as the leading candidate in the crowded primary at 19%, with her mentee Pete Snyder coming in second. Former House Speaker Kirk Cox, who was once seen as party leaders’ favorite for governor, came in far behind Chase at a lowly 6%.
Chase and Snyder have allied themselves with Trump and his extremist allies every step of the way – and as this recent poll shows, it’s paid off with Republican voters. Chase, who calls herself “Trump in heels,” spoke at the rally prior to the January 6th riot, and referred to the insurrectionists as “patriots.” She’s also spread dangerous misinformation about the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2020 election.
Snyder has followed Chase’s lead on the issues. He’s an out-of-touch, right wing political hack who is known for saying things like “in some cases it’s actually better to be uninsured than to be on Medicaid.” Snyder vehemently opposes common-sense policies like the Affordable Care Act and gun violence prevention, and favors taking money away from public schools.
Chase and Snyder are also outraising and outspending their opponents. So far, Chase has posted bigger fundraising numbers than the other candidates, and Snyder purchased airtime on Fox News on day one of his campaign.
“The Virginia GOP is disorganized, broke, and stuck with Amanda Chase as their likely nominee,” said DGA Deputy Communications Director Christina Amestoy. “With Chase leading in both fundraising and polling, it’s clear Trump’s base makes up what’s left of the Republican Party in Virginia. The VA GOP primary will be a race to the right to see if anyone can out-crazy Chase, guaranteeing the GOP nominee will be out of touch with the commonwealth’s values.”
