Dismal Approval Ratings For Greg Gianforte, New Poll Deems Him Least Popular Member of Montana’s Federal Delegation
A new poll from the University of Montana revealed that only 37% of Montanans feel that leading Republican gubernatorial candidate, Greg Gianforte, has done a good job in Congress. Gianforte is significantly less popular than Gov. Steve Bullock and every other member of the Montana federal delegation.
Montana political analyst Lee Banville said Gianforte’s numbers indicate he is a “polarizing figure” in the state, boding ill for his run for governor.
Here are some highlights from Gianforte’s stint in Congress:
- Voted for tax cuts for the wealthiest 1% of Americans, like him, while exploding the deficit by $1.5 trillion.
- Voted to turn Medicare, which over 200,000 Montanans benefit from, into a voucher program.
- Supports repealing the Affordable Care Act, which could lead to nearly 150,000 Montanans losing health coverage.
- Stayed silent as the proposed federal budget was set to cut $223 million from a program which generates over $16 million in the state and supports nearly 200 good-paying jobs.
- Last month, he donated an astonishing $250,000 to the National Republican Campaign Committee. Gianforte’s donations to the swamp now total over $600,000, meaning he has invested twice as much to elect national Republicans than he has in aiding Montana Republicans.
And let’s not forget, the night before his election he assaulted a journalist, lied to the police about it, and was eventually convicted in Gallatin County Court.
“Montanans aren’t fooled — New Jersey Greg has spent more of his time hobnobbing in the D.C. swamp than he has in fighting for working people,” said DGA National Press Secretary Jerusalem Demsas. “After a series of unpopular votes, Gianforte now has the distinction of being the most unpopular elected federal official in Montana. Come November, Montanans will reject him and his divisive brand of politics in favor of leadership focused on health care access and good-paying jobs.”
