(VIDEO) Rauner: “The President Is Doing Great Work and I Support That”
During Governor’s Day at the Illinois State Fair, Governor Bruce Rauner told reporters he thinks President Donald Trump’s “doing great work” (video courtesy of One Illinois). Illinoisans clearly disagree with the governor’s take as Illinois has given Trump one of the highest disapproval ratings in the nation.
Mary Ann Ahern: “Where do you stand on President Trump. I didn’t hear anything at the Republican breakfast on Trump and no talk of him here.”
Bruce Rauner: “Well the President is doing important work to cut taxes, that’s outstanding, cut the red tape and regulations on business, that’s outstanding. He’s fighting hard to get fair trade. You know what? America’s been taken advantage of by other nations for years. We’ve lost American jobs because. He’s fighting to get fair trade – that’s awesome. The President is doing great work and I support that.”
Rauner has repeatedly dodged Trump-related questions while allowing his agenda to go unchecked. Lately, though, Rauner has been moving closer to the White House – Rauner introduced Vice President Mike Pence at a rally and enjoyed the support of a Super PAC tied to Trump.
“Illinois’ worst-kept secret is out – Bruce Rauner supports Donald Trump and thinks he’s doing ‘great work,’” said DGA Illinois Communications Director Sam Salustro. “Illinois families now know unequivocally that they cannot trust Bruce Rauner to stand up against Donald Trump and his harmful agenda.”
