SC-Gov: As Haley Moves Forward, Would-Be Successor Refuses to Leave Whites-Only Country Club

The State: Lt. Gov. McMaster set to ‘take his membership in the all-white Forest Lake Club with him to the Governor’s Mansion’

Today, the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted to approve the confirmation of Gov. Nikki Haley as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. But back home in South Carolina, her would-be replacement will “take his membership in the all-white Forest Lake Club with him to the Governor’s Mansion,” according to The State.

When Gov. Haley resigns to accept the cabinet position, Lt. Gov. Henry McMaster will immediately take over as Governor of South Carolina. But as The State reported over the weekend, McMaster is refusing to cancel his membership to the whites-only club as governor.

This decision raises serious questions about how Lt. Gov. McMaster would lead as governor and should be concerning to every South Carolina voter.”
