NEW POLL: Mike Cooney In Statistical Tie With Greg Gianforte

Despite Millions in Spending From Gianforte, Montana Voters Not Buying Republican’s Candidacy

A new poll released by Global Strategy Group shows the Montana governor’s race in a statistical tie. Lt. Gov. Mike Cooney has closed the gap on Rep. Greg Gianforte, despite Gianforte investing millions of his own personal fortune and running a barrage of negative ads.

By a double-digit margin, voters trust Cooney to protect their public lands over Gianforte and believe Cooney will do a better job at working across the aisle. It’s clear voters know that Mike Cooney has spent his career working to protect public lands and has brought Democrats and Republicans together to get things done, like expanding Medicaid and enhancing public education

The poll also showed nearly half of Montanans have an unfavorable view of Gianforte – unsurprising considering Gianforte’s years-long crusade against public land access, putting him at odds with 90% of Montanans who believe public lands have a positive impact on their quality of life.

“Greg Gianforte has spent over 12 million dollars trying to convince Montanans to vote for him to no avail — the race hasn’t budged and he continues to have the highest unfavorability rating of any statewide elected federal official, ” said DGA National Press Secretary, Jerusalem Demsas. “New Jersey multimillionaire Greg Gianforte wants to strip away protections from public lands, rip away access to affordable health care, and give tax breaks to millionaires like himself at Montanans’ expense. As we enter the final weeks of the race, Mike Cooney is poised to talk directly with voters about his long record of protecting public lands and growing Montana jobs.”
