In PA-GOV, Wagner Running as a Trump Clone

Wagner: “I want to make Pennsylvania greater again.”

Pennsylvania state Sen. Scott Wagner is getting more and more attention for his similarities to Donald Trump.

The Daily Caller and Philadelphia Magazine both recently profiled Wagner’s campaign for governor and the Trump comparisons were numerous. Here are a few of the top takeaways from the coverage:

He closes his speeches with a “two-minute ode” to Trump:

The crowd is hanging on Wagner’s every word. But he hasn’t even gotten to the most important part of his speech yet. Wagner’s closer — the cherry on top — is a two-minute ode to the President. He calls Donald Trump “courageous” and says he was “relieved” when Trump won.

During the 2016 presidential election, he bought 20,000 Trump-Pence campaign signs:

In the summer of 2016, when many conservatives were skipping out on the Republican National Convention, Wagner told reporters he was buying 20,000 Trump lawn signs. To this day, he regularly compares himself to the President: “I want to make Pennsylvania greater again.”

He’s a big fan of Trump’s travel ban and thinks the investigation into Russian interference is “propaganda”:

If asked about hot-button cultural topics, Wagner will usually toe the Trumpist line. He supports Trump’s travel ban and calls the Russia investigation “a lot of propaganda.”

Wagner also has a Trump-like ability to cause controversy. From an anti-Semitic rant about George Soros, to physically attacking a video tracker, Wagner has revealed his temperament for the job is questionable at best.

“This Republican primary is all about who can be the most like Donald Trump, and Scott Wagner is pretty convincing,” said DGA Communications Director Jared Leopold. “Wagner has shown himself to be just as unhinged and uninformed as the president he so adores. And now that he’s running for governor, Wagner is trying to bring Trump’s chaotic agenda to Pennsylvania.”
