At the last minute yesterday, Bruce Rauner canceled a long-planned fundraiser after it started to attract press and public attention. Seeking to avoid a bad headline, Rauner instead claimed he needed the extra day to prepare for his address to Illinois (where he will take no questions).
Both NBC and the Daily Herald were on the scene to speak with people like Cynthia Sylvia, who warned that Republican cuts to Medicare would have disastrous effects on the people she cares for, and called on Governor Rauner to “do his job” and get a budget done. The theme of the night was accountability for Governor Rauner, for his silence on Trumpcare and for his failure over the past 700+ days to pass a budget.

Daily Herald: After protesters gather, Rauner skips Republican fundraiser

Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner Monday pulled out of a Rosemont fundraiser for the state party where he was billed as a “special guest” after busloads of protesters unhappy with his position on the Affordable Care Act assembled outside.
Tickets for the “Cocktails with the Congressmen” event at Gene & Georgetti steakhouse ranged from $10,000 for hosts to $100 for general admission. Along with Rauner, congressmen Peter Roskam of Reps., Randy Hultgren of Plano, Rodney Davis of Taylorville, Mike Bost of Murphysboro and Adam Kinzinger of Channahon were scheduled to attend the event, closed to members of the media. Several congressmen, including Roskam, slipped through the side doors of the restaurant, to the jeers of the roughly 50 protesters outside. … Read more.
